THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, USA

  • In his February, 2005 article entitled Israel/Palestine Peace Must Be a Priority, Bishop John Chane asserted that Bold new American leadership seeking peace for Israelis and Palestinians is vital
  • In its 2004 Statement, The Anglican Peace and Justice Network called upon the faith communities to a time of focused and intentional prayer and advocacy for peace in Palestine/Israel.
  • In its June 2005 meeting, the Anglican Consultative Council acted unanimously in encouraging other provinces to adopt investment strategies that support the infrastructure of a future Palestinian State, and calling for peace, justice, and co-existence in the Holy Land.

    THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN AMERICA (ELCA)

    Building upon the “Churchwide Strategy for Engagement in Israel and Palestine”, the ELCA Churchwide Assembly in 2005 called for:

  • Advocacy for political solutions that address the rights to security and peace for justice for both Palestinians and Israelis.
  • Working to strengthen the political will of leaders in this country and in Palestine/Israel to end terrorism and violence, to end the Israeli occupation, and to work for a viable, contiguous, independent Palestinian State living side by side with a secure Israel.
  • Strengthening relationships with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and supporting the humanitarian work done by that church and The Lutheran World Federation (e.g. Augusta Victoria Hospital)

    THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (UMC)

    In its 2004 General Conference, The Church
  • Called on members to support, and participate in, the work of international peace and human rights organizations to provide protection for Palestinians and Israelis seeking nonviolently to end the occupation.
  • Urged Israel to cease the confiscation of Palestinian lands and water and to life the closures and curfews on all Palestinian towns by completely withdrawing Israeli military forces to the Green Line.
  • Encouraged members of each congregation to study the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from all perspectives by inviting speakers to church events.
